EC Fans & Drives Launches Two New Energy Efficient Motors

[January 26, 2016: New Bedford, MA]

EC Fans & Drives, a division of Epec Engineered Technologies, announced the release of two new energy efficient EC motors this week at the 2016 AHR Show in Orlando Florida.

A specialized engineering team assembled by EC Fans & Drives has been developing and testing a new series of motors these past two years which are now ready for production. The new models, EConomy and EXRi50, were both developed to combat the highly competitive commercial refrigeration and HVAC markets to specifically address the need for lower cost and an increase of energy efficiency. Most recently the motors have successfully completed a 6-month beta test with several top tier companies.

The EConomy and EXRi50 not only solve the issue of improving the energy efficiency but they also improve the reliability by reducing warranty costs due to IP rating. An advantage the EXRi50 provides is that it has a slim profile which it can be used in applications where the current EC motor technology can not physically fit.

EConomy and EXRi50 Motor

EConomy Specifications: Single speed, single direction, entry-level EC motor. The operating range of output power is 1-16 watts, class-leading efficiency with extremely competitive pricing.

EXRi50 Specifications: Global voltage, single speed, single direction, EC fans assembly, available as a fan-pack with integrated fan ring. Offers an extremely slim profile for applications where space constrictions may be a concern.

EC Fans & Drives Named Finalist Of Prestigious 2014 EE Times And EDN Ace Award For Energy Technology

Energy Efficiency Improvements Essential to Supermarkets' Success

A division of Epec Engineered Technologies, EC Fans & Drives manufactures EC electric motors specifically for the HVAC and Refrigeration sectors. With the introduction of new energy efficiency standards derived from the U.S. Department of Energy it is a very significant time to introduce our ECplus Motor. Anyone involved within the supermarket industry should be aware that profit margins are tight, typically between 1% and 3%. With the ECplus Motor you can expect up to 80% savings in energy consumption. The opportunity to save even a 1/8th of a cent would prove to be a drastic improvement in the refrigeration and HVAC industries.

ECplus Refrigeration Motor

Refrigeration alone accounts for over 35% of the energy consumed in a standard supermarket. Due to the increase in stringent legislation targeting energy savings, commercial refrigerators and freezers have become a main focus. This has resulted in Supermarket Procurement Departments specifying that all new and retrofitted commercial refrigerators and freezers are fitted with electronically commutated motors. Coca-Cola and other leading OEM's in the commercial refrigeration sector have already begun implementing the cost saving benefits of the ECplus Motor and its energy efficient technology.

The average American supermarket has approximately 400 shaded pole motors in commercial refrigerators and freezers which remain operational at all times.

The efficiency rate of these motors is in the order of 15%. This means that 85% of their energy consumption is transferred as waste heat into the environment, and has to be removed or cooled down again by the refrigeration and air conditioning system, causing additional consumption of energy.

With efficiency rates up to 70% the ECplus Motor will dramatically reduce direct energy consumption. Additional energy savings will incur by greatly reducing waste heat. The ECplus Motor will also allow supermarkets to significantly reduce their environmental impact.

EC Fans & Drives and MARS Sign Exclusive Distribution Agreement for Energy Efficient ECplus Motor

EC Fans & Drives and Motors and Armatures Inc. ("MARS") today announced the signing of an exclusive distribution agreement for the Aftermarket and Retrofit markets. Under the terms of the Agreement, MARS will be the exclusive distributor for EC Fans & Drives' new energy efficient commercial refrigeration motor, the ECplus, together with new electronically commutated motors that EC Fans & Drives have in development.

EC Fans & Drives is at the forefront of electronically commutated (EC) technology and has developed a comprehensive range of energy efficient electric motors, fans and backward curved impellers that serve a wide range of applications across a broad section of industries.

Our booth was extremely busy from the opening minutes of the three day show to the closing minutes, with huge interest from commercial refrigeration OEM's in 35 countries in EC Fans & Drives' ECplus and EXR series electronically commutated high efficiency motors.


EC Fans & Drives Raises the Bar for Residential Ventilation

[September 5, 2012: New Bedford MA]

EC Fans & Drives, a division of Epec Engineered Technologies, has recently launched its new EXR series of high efficiency, electronically commutated motors. Early indications are that the EXR series motor has comprehensively rewritten the benchmark for energy efficient residential ventilation.

The Energy Star requirements for efficient residential ventilation systems currently demand that a residential ventilation fan moves at least 2.8 cubic feet per minute of air per Watt of electrical energy consumed by the fan. If that minimum standard is not achieved, a residential ventilation product will not be awarded the Energy Star mark of approval.

Independent testing on a residential ventilation system fitted with EC Fans & Drives' new EXR50 electric motor indicated that the EXR50 powered system was in fact exceeding the Energy Star minimum airflow per Watt of energy requirement by more than 500%.
